Chiropractic
Chiropractic is a natural healing art and science that has been used in the U.S. for over one hundred years. It concentrates on preventing disease and maintaining health. There are over 50,000 chiropractors actively practicing in the U.S. today, and over 30 million Americans receiving care through chiropractic clinics.
Chiropractors focus on the body’s innate ability to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. They believe that misaligned vertebrae, referred to as subluxations, can interfere with normal body function, and if left uncorrected, can result in muscle and/or organ dysfunction, and other imbalances. Subluxations are corrected with the practitioners hands or an instrument via an “adjustment”.
Because chiropractice care is a drugless, non-invasive approach to preventing disease and maintaining health, in most cases it is also appropriate for infants, children and teenagers.
There are over 300 different chiropractic techniques. The amount of force used during the adjustment varies from that used to test the ripeness of a tomato up to the full body weight of the practitioner. No one technique or amount of force is right for every person. A skilled practitioner can vary technique and force to match the needs of the patient or refer the patient to a fellow chiropractor more suited for their needs.
